Zhongxian - Wuhan Natural Gas Pipeline, designed in 1998 with a total length of 1,375 km, includes one 719 km truck line with a diameter of 711 mm and three branch lines. The truck line is equipped with 11 process stations and 22 block valve stations. The pipeline passes through Chongqing, Hubei, and Hunan, featured with the mountainous areas of multiple rages in western Hubei and Jianghan plain with densely distributed water network. The project successfully resolves the technical difficulties of laying pipeline in karst caves, crossing the Yangtze River four times (twice by shield tunneling) and crossing Hanjiang River. Due to its new record of difficulty in terms of China's gas pipeline design, the project was selected as the Top Ten Innovative Projects of New Record for China's Enterprises. Furthermore, the project was also rewarded the Silver Medal of National Excellent Project for Survey and Design in 2008 and the First Prize of Excellent Petroleum Project Design in 2008.
